If you are not storing the results of calculations (are not using Calculation Retain fields), the results of calculations are “floating,” and not fixed as an unchanging part of each record.
In this event, you always get a view of the present, updated state of your calculation.
This means that it can be an inefficient use of time to put some calculations on the same form that is being used for data entry, or on lists that do not really relate to these calculations.
A useful alternative is to set up “status windows” made up of forms with calculations for analysis and evaluation. Such windows can be opened at any time to give you summaries, messages, or flag you that certain conditions have been met.
Or, you can leave one or more of these windows open while you are working, and any relevant changes will be automatically reflected as you enter records (you will have to wait for the calculated display to update before entering the next record).
